The erstwhile South West Family Support Association had two things to celebrate at its Forrest Avenue premises last night. The occasion marked eighteen years of service since its inception in 1991, and also its change of name to Enable Southwest Inc.
While the name has changed, the fundamental ethos and objectives of the organisation remain the same, according to Enable Southwest CEO Rob Holmes. ” We have always sought to be flexible and responsive, to enable people with disabilities to participate in community life,” Mr Holmes said. “We agreed on the name after consulting our clients, staff and Board of Directors, and we focus on what people can do, or aspire to do, not what they can’t do.”
The Hon Barry House MLC attended to officiate at the name launch, and was full of praise for the organisation and the progress he had seen throughout its corporate history to date. It was noted that during the past year Enable Southwest had supported 190 families through the employment of some seventy support workers, making Enable Southwest the largest not for profit provider of disability support services in the South West.
Also attending the launch was long time community advocate and Minister for Local Government John Castrilli, and Federal Member Nola Marino.
