Microsoft joins Outlook to Internet Social Networking

Microsoft recently added “social Connector” to Outlook 2010, and has now integrated Facebook into Outlook’s email functions.

Outlook users will now be able to see the Facebook profiles of their email contacts, and other associated feeds, such as news, updates, and Wall posts.

Commentators think this will have more impact on Companies than individual users, but it suggests that Microsoft accepts social networking through the web is  a long term phenomenon.

It is a coup for Facebook, who now look likely to maintain their dominance of the social networking market. Facebook has held the lead over competitors like MySpace for several years now.

The Facebook link is downloadable as an add-on to Outlook 2010.
