The Health Minister Kim Hames today announced the winner of the public tender process to supply medical imaging services at the South West Health Campus in Bunbury. The contract for is reported to be worth $24.14million over 10 years.
The contract has been awarded to Global Diagnostics, who have also supplied medical imaging to Bunbury Hospital since it was opened in 1999, but under their former business name Imaging the South.
The new contract is to provide comprehensive radiological service including MRI and nuclear medicine, and is estimated to involve about 20,000 examinations annually. The contract will run for five years with a five year extension option.
The contract coincides with a $14.9million redevelopment of Bunbury Hospital, including expansion of the Emergency Department (ED) and creation of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The three-stage project is mainly funded by the Federal Government.
“Work is on track for the ICU to be operational early next year, followed by ED expansion in 2012 and a new short-stay unit and fast-track emergency area in 2013,” Dr Hames said.
