The Koombana Bay Sailing Club’s vision for a pontoon jetty received a boost with Regional Minister Brendon Grylls today announcing a grant of $240,000 towards the project through the South West Development Commission.
“The funding will assist the Koombana Bay Sailing Club to proceed with the project, which will involve the assembly of 10 pontoons adjacent to the existing groyne,” Mr Grylls said.
The pontoons will be anchored by pylons driven into the sand, and can be removed and brought ashore in response to adverse weather conditions.
It is expected that the new jetty will allow bigger boats to have better access to the shore, and will provide greater accessibility for participants of Rotary’s Sail into Life, a program for people with disabilities who enjoy sailing.
The Minister congratulated the Koombana Bay Sailing Club on their vision to improve boating facilities for the region.
