Eelup Roundabout Upgrade Announced

The WA Government today announced stage one of an upgrade to the Eelup traffic roundabout at the entrance to Bunbury, a site notorious for having the highest incidence of traffic crashes in Western Australia.

The so called upgrade involves the installation of traffic lights at the roundabout. Minister for Transport Troy Buswell noted that this was the first roundabout with full traffic signals.

It is expected that the installation of lights will increase the traffic capacity of the intersection by 40 percent as well as reduce the hazard to safety which the present design clearly represents.

Work on the lights is expected to start in the second half of 2011 with the work to be completed by mid 2012.
