A local rower was part of the women’s quad scull boat that came second in one of the events at the World Rowing Junior Championships held at Brive-la-Gaillarde earlier this month, according to a press release by the South West Academy of Sport.
Alexandra Hagan is a member of the Bunbury Rowing Club and obtained assistance from the South West Academy of Sport in the form of a scholarship to enable her participation in France. Alexandra teamed with Maddie Edmunds (Queensland), Amy Fowler (ACT) and Jessica Hall (Queensland) in the medal winning performance.
The press release, which mentions the time achieved for the course, overlooks to mention the distance over which the medal was won.
Meanwhile, WA Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron announced an additional $136,000 funding for the South West Academy of Sport through the Royalties for Regions program, as the Academy completes its first year of operation.
