A radiation oncology centre was opened opened in Bunbury yesterday by Health Minister Kim Hames and Senator Louise Pratt.
The new $15.2million facility is expected to treat up to 500 patients in its first year of operation, and will reduce stress previously associated with travel from the Southwest, Wheatbelt, and Great Southern.
The cost of the centre was shared between the State Government, with an investment of $9.2million and the Federal Government with a contribution of $6million.
The centre will be operated by Genesis Care, under a $200million contract to deliver the services at Bunbury, Royal Perth Hospital and the new cancer centre at the Fiona Stanley Hospital.
