Tenders Called for Emergency Department Expansion

Tenders have been called this week for the two final stages of the $14.9million redevelopment of Bunbury Hospital Critical Care unit.

Last week WA Health Minister Kim Hames said the tenders would be called for the second and third stages of the project which involved the expansion and redevelopment of the Emergency Department.

“Stage one, in which a High Dependency Unit (HDU) and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities were established, was completed in March this year,” Dr Hames said.

It is expected that Stage two, which was the expansion of the Emergency Department from 15 to 27 treatment bays, will be completed in early 2013. Stage three, the ‘Fast Track’ area and Short Stay Units, is expected to be completed in late 2013.

“The redeveloped Emergency Department will include a ‘Fast Track’ area and a Short Stay Unit. This will provide a dedicated observation area for emergency, short stay or overnight patients and reduce pressure on beds in other areas of the hospital,” the Minister said.

Bunbury Regional Hospital will remain fully operational during construction.
