Work on the Slip Lane at the notorious Eelup roundabout has been completed and the opening is scheduled for October 27, in time for the long weekend.
It forms the first step in the roundabout’s $16million upgrade – Stage 1 of the overall Eelup Project, which will eventually include a flyover.
Transport Minister Troy Buswell said that southbound traffic will no longer need to enter the Eelup roundabout and can avoid one of the State’s worst black spots.
The Eelup roundabout has the highest number of crashes in Western Australia, with more than 650 crashes over the past five years, at an estimated cost of $11million.
The next stage of the upgrade is the full signalisation of the roundabout. Tenders for the signal work closed last week and work is scheduled to start in early 2012 and take about five months to complete.
