The final 43 Lots of the College Grove development have been released at Woodcrest Rise.
The release completes Stage 2 of the residential development, which abuts the planned ‘Preston River to Ocean Regional Park’. Under the College Grove ‘land swap’ proposal, the regional park would include other land originally earmarked for housing, but identified as environmentally sensitive and therefore protected by the State Government.
Endorsed by Government in April this year, and subject to acceptance by the City of Bunbury, the plans restrict further housing development in Woodcrest Rise, meaning many of the Stage 2 lots would directly overlook native bush land.
Announcing the release, Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said Woodcrest Rise was one of a number of projects completed or being progressed by both Government and the private sector to help meet Bunbury’s anticipated future housing needs.
“The South-West is a strong regional contributor to the State’s economy, bringing in some $12.4billion in 2009-10. As the economy continues to grow we anticipate mounting pressure for housing in this region,” Mr Grylls said.
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli, who helped drive the inclusion of bush land surrounding Woodcrest Rise into the proposed regional park, said while the final release in the south-east section of Woodcrest Rise provided a great outcome for the community, work was continuing to identify more suitable areas for residential development.
